ello and welcome back to the final blog of music through the decades, Dani’s Music Box style. I’ve taken you all (and myself) on a trip down memory lane, specifically from the late 50s, through to 2018.
This year looks set to be a big year for music. So far, the songs that have made up 2018 are incredible and we’re only at the end of January. We have another 11 months of awesome music to prepare for, so watch this space.
This blog will be looking at two genres that have really struck a chord with me this decade. From the beginning of this decade, I've noticed an influx of experimental music which has influenced my own music. This has lead to me deciding to be more experimental, as opposed to sticking to one genre. Without further ado, let’s get this show on the road.
Metalcore is one of the genres I’ve grown to love since 2010, following the rise and rise of Post Hardcore and Emo in the late 90s and early 00s. However, I did forget about the genre for a few years at the start of this decade, but since joining Newport City Radio – and The Rock Show – in 2015, co-presenters Sammy and Owen also like the genre, which reignited my love.
Going back to the 80s and listening to the Hip Hop and Rap my brother would listen to, I would totally disregard as awful. Years later, update it to modern music and put an Alternative twist to it and you have a good genre. One band I’ve been listening to on repeat recently (and in work), is Twenty One Pilots. I just can’t get enough of them.
So, to wrap things up, I formed my own project in 2010 as a solo project. Last year it was upgraded to a band project, and musically I wanted to be experimental and open myself up to every genre. Linking back to music, since 2010, I’ve opened myself up as a fan of all genres of all music. The following video encapsulates this current decade, I hope you enjoy. Here’s to the next decade and anticipation to see what joys and great music it brings (hopefully my own).
